1. Maize does not benefit from Mawath (winter rains).
2. It is caused by Mediterranean cyclones which are also called western disturbances. A Western Disturbance is an extratropical storm originating in the Mediterranean region that brings sudden winter rainfall to northwestern parts of the Indian subcontinent.
3. It is a non-monsoon rainfall pattern which is driven by westerly winds. The moisture in these storms usually originates over the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
